If I am understanding you correctly, the crankshaft has needle bearings both front and rear. If that is true, you will need to come up with a way to deal with the thrust loads. If there is room, or if you can make room, you can use bronze washers to withstand the thrust of the prop pulling, and/or the use of a starter.
