When shielding, normally just one end is grounded so that RFI does not travel along it's surface from point ''A'' to point ''B''
Yep, normally that works, but sometimes a worm drive clamp is necessary on the plug end along with a bonding (grounding) strap back to the module in order to eliminate the RFI. Been down that path already and it was the ONLY solution that worked. We tried the clamp on the plug boot cap first but the interference finally stopped after the bonding strap was installed from the engine case back to the CDI box. Almost always just bonding one end, like you said, will get-r-done. Take care Jim.
Must have needed a more solid ground that your bonding strap provided. Usually the shield on the plug wire is the ground back to the ignition correct? Sometimes those metal braids get chopped up by vibrating fiberglass.
