53 mhz was for the US ham radio market which, when it came out was the only band you could transmit FM on until the modern 72mhz. I am sure they had 35 FM if it was legal at that time, because Futaba is a world company. I am sure you could wire a modern FM 35 in if you cant find a standard module.
