RE: Bashing of the Kadet Seniors
Hi,
I wish i had this thread when i started the building of my senior!
For what it is worth (the thing has not flown yet - still in the finishing stages) here is how i did my bolt on wing:
1. A piece of hardwood, that is flat on the top, and angled at the bottom so the bottom is parrallel to the top surface angle of the trailing edge of the wing (like a piece of trailing edge stock upside down, but made of hardwood). It effectively makes the training edge a parallelogram so the top and bottom are in the same plane.
2. The piece is cut in half in the middle and the 2 pieces are then joined in the middle to as to match the dihedral of the wing
3. The wing bolts on into blind nuts in the hardwood held in with epoxy
4. There are ply doublers at the edges to strengthen the whole thing, and a ply doubler at the back to strengthen it across the join of the two hardwood blocks (ply shaped as per the dihedral).
You can see in the pics how the bolts are angled backward (so the shaft of the bolt is perpendicular to the top of the Trailing edge piece), and also angled slightly inwards to account for the dihedral.
I can make up a drawing if this doesn't make sense!
