I thought for a moment you had located some large 3 phase sensored brushless motors.By that,I mean a step in size or two up from cdrom brushless.

I do know of toothed belt mechanisms in consumer desktop scanners & copiers and rack & pinion mechanisms in drives.I am also familiar with the various motors and their feedback control systems.These would certainly not do the job for 1 litre tanks.
