Why don't you just get one of these Hobbyzone Supercub LPs?

It has that anti crash sensor, and is made of tough Z-foam, which rocks. Plus, a snap-on float kit is available for $25 extra. Spare parts are cheap too. I dunno, everyone says this is the ultimate trainer, and your best bet if you don't have an instructor. That's what I'd go with in your situation; save your gas plane for when you can master the cub.
