I quite regularly get cracks in the clunk tube.

Instead of sucking the fuel, try putting your finger over the end of the silencer and allowing exhaust pressure to blow it through.
If that doesn't work then there's a hole or blockage (fuel filter?).

Do you filter your fuel as you're filling too?
