I too am a recent convert to the spinner nut. They make it much easier to change props, they look better, and they are only a couple bucks more than a spinner. I doubt I will buy another plastic spinner.
A spinner nut costs about 5 bucks, a good spinner runs from about $20.00 then goes up from there.
What type of spinners were you using?? I really thought I found a good deal on spinners!!
I have run into spinners that were cut bigger then my props a number of times, not as often as I would like though. Most people buy the spinner size that will fit the planes cowl and not the prop. I have had some planes with cowls that were pretty big for the engine/prop combo I was using so the slots were bigger then what I really needed. That would bring up the question what is too big? I may use the same spinner on more then one plane over the years so the slot may be just right or way too big, they work so it must be the correct size for me.

If you order True Turn Spinners direct and tell them the size prop you are using they will cut the slots for you for just a couple of bucks. At one time I ordered some from them and they were cutting them for free. I may know the length of the prop I'm going to use but not the pitch so I have them cut them over size for me.
I started buying a spinner sold under the Magnum name, way cheaper then any of the others I have found but every bit as good. They come with an adapter nut too, sometimes luck is on my side and the nut even fits the engine I'm going to use. I do end up cutting the slots myself though, I don't think they do the custom cutting like Tru Turn.
I also have a box with several spinner nuts form some of my smaller planes I used to have.
I always used the Great Planes plastic spinners with the aluminum backplate. I think they cost around $5-6. The Dubro aluminum prop nuts that I have bought are about $8, I think. I don't always read my receipt when I leave the LHS [

].
The only time I would have considered a Tru Turn spinner is if I were building something scale that really deserved one. Since I am now mostly building 3D slabs, I don't see any spinners in my immediate future.
