The only thing I can suggest is to check to make sure that there is nothing at all on the brass head shims. Also, make sure that the head is tightened down nice and evenly, a little at a time.
The burn marks are normal. Those are from the castor oil in the fuel. When it burns, it leaves a brownish residue on both the head and the crown of the piston.
