RE: NEW H9 P51 Mustang 60 ARF
Finally resolved the whimpy tail wheel installation - I used a 60 size tail wheel bracket, (1.25 long) mounted it to the outside of the fuse - glue a piece of 1/8 ply backing to the inside of the fuse just aft of the tail wheel for the bracket attach screws and a tapered piece of hardwood under the bracket to square it up with the tail wheel wire. As the tail wheel wire is 2.5mm dia use a #40 drill to open up the bracket hole. This works perfectly and really makes the tail wheel rigid - the green tube around the tail wheel wire is fuel tubing to make it look a little beefier and it also resmbles the green chromate primer used in many landing gear applications - adds a little weight but is comparable to the weight added by other approaches to beef up this installation. I also use clear silicon adhesive to attach the crummy gear doors and when installed the result is a pretty clean installation. Hope this helps those who are looking for an alternative way to beef up the tail wheel installation.
