A historical obscure factoid:

this particular Sopwith Camel was shot down
over enemy lines in Germany and captured
by Oberleutnant Schumkelfarber near the city
of Wurzburg.The date was 25th April 1917.
Here is the Oberleutnant getting
ready to TEST a British Camel, waiting for
the wings to be attached. The end result of this
experiment was that the pilot flew the Camel
back over the lines, defected and went to live
in the USA, where he lived a happy and secure
existence.
