Vic,
Lake effect snow,, Lol! Some don't realize what that is, but when I lived in Gary, about 1 mile south of Lake Michigan. The worst snow fall I can remember was 32 inches OVER NIGHT, you couldn't even see the neighbors house next door. Now that's a snow fall.

They called for snow here, we got it, I wouldn't even start my tractor to plow an inch of standing powder....ain't worth the gas I'd burn. Personally, it ain't snow less you're looking at 18-24'' standing....that's where it STARTS. Real snow (lake effect I grew up with), 30-40'' at a crack....man, that was snow....I shoveled a LOT of it by hand. Now I use a Ford 861 PowerMaster with a 5spd manual, front bucket and 8ft grader blade behind. When we get 20''+, then it becomes a little like work.
Well...if you grew up on the south or west side of any of the great lakes you know what it is. Even Chicago don't get the snow that west michigan gets. They get snow, but not like in a lake effect area.
