Default RE: Official F27 Stryker Part 8: Beginners to Custom Darkness

louierc,

*** THIS is a copy and paste from info I wrote to someone else....some of your answers can be found in here...and there is extra info in it too.

There are (2) 1.5 turn motors for 16/25/X and 16/35/X.

R,S versions.
Lettering was originally suggested by MEGA motor USA for manufacturer's consideration.
Manufacturer in Europe liked the idea of the lettering but decided that he wanted it backwards than suggested by MEGA Motor USA (USA Distributor).
Distributor was told to correct that on his USA web site.
Ken the distributor said he did that....I told him that no, you have not...he said he has done it on his ordering page.
I said you have not fixed it on the listing of all motors and unless people specifically also add the KV when ordering I see a potential problem when ordering the motor. I encouraged him to fix that other page ASAP...that was a few days ago.

You can see all 1.5 turn motors 16/25/X and 16/35/X still have the letters backwards.
Easy way to remember: “S” means slower KV….LOL…
I hate using the word slower and MEGA in same sentence.

Fact:
16/25/1.5 R 3750KV
16/25/1.5 S 2990KV

***Do not order the 3750KV version unless you are going to run that motor in a Stryker for high speed using "HIGH" AMPs on 3S "ONLY"
If you are getting the 3750KV for different purpose let me know.

***The 2990KV can be run in a Stryker on 3S and 4S but I feel the KV is still a bit high for max speed 4S operations in a Stryker...(perfect for Funjet).
In a Stryker, due to great cooling, running this motor little above 125A should not be an issue.....but for max 4S speed you might need to push 140-150A in order to barely run proper prop size.
However it can run good 4S climbing props.

16/25/2 2650KV has been proven to be a great 3S, 4S motor for Stryker at 130MPH or just above.

The new 16/25/2E has slightly lower KV and I assume that it can be a little better 4S motor. Only 2 came to USA and as of last week, MEGA motor USA still had one on hand.
Any MEGA dealer or person can get that motor from him.

***Best place to order a MEGA motor is New Creations RC in Texas.
That dealer will give slight discount when people mention that they were sent over from the Stryker thread. The special motors are not listed on his web site. So ask to talk to Kirk Massey (the owner) on the phone. He directly answers most of the calls himself anyway.

Generally: Motors(or other things) usually cost less from Dealers versus buying directly from a Distributor.

We should include the KV just to make sure that nothing goes wrong during ordering.

Letter "C" means COMBAT shaft which just means 5mm shaft as opposed to regular 3.2mm shaft.
I prefer 5mm shaft since it has 2.4 times the cross sectional area of 3.2mm shaft, therefore it is much much much much harder to get it bent during a mishap.
If you ever bend one, let us know and we will give you a standing ovation.
It'll require a 5mm prop adapter and for you to enlarge your prop's center hole a bit more to allow it to go on thicker prop adapter.
***Note, for smaller APC E props up to & including E 6X5.5 you will need to install a washer in front of prop for its blades to clear the edges of 5mm prop adapter.
Not an issue with Graupner, Aeronaut or APC Sport 6" or more, or APC E 7" or more, all APC Pylon o.k. too.
Owner of APC Prop told me (in person) that adding a washer is totally o.k.

ALL MEGA MOTORs can be ordered in 5mm COMBAT version (use letter C).

Stryker Flyer did an intensive and thorough research on 5mm prop adapters....HINT....

The following can help us come up with recommendations.

Comment on your max level speed desired, including max speed for future (level flight with no wind, no diving).
ALL battery packs on hand being considered needs to be listed in full detail.
Willing to buy new pack?
Willing to run series or parallel packs?
Charger's max number of cells limit?
Willing to get 0.8 o.z. heavier motor (possibly 16/30/2)
Willing to wait to get motor, or does it have to be on shelf right now?
ESC comments will need to wait after the ideal motor and battery has been determined...I assume no High Voltage ESC.

Please send me a PM regarding the Charlotte club.
