RE: Why the AMA is not growing...........
Let's get to the bottom of the debate. AMA is not growing because of the 1.)COST. 2.) Fields are being lost all over the US and the AMA is not doing anything to help retain them, Mile Square Park in Southern California was taken away to put in a Golf Course, Whittier Narrows park in Southern California is being considered for "Other" uses. Hey guys, this leaves only ONE good flying site in Southern California to fly at. The AMA needs to foster growth through participation in clubs OTHER than the National Flying Site. In the 35+ years that I have been flying, I have never see or been contacted by an AMA representative (unless I'm late in getting my membership renewed). This last year, I am one of the ones that has dropped my membership. I was in the AMA since 1975 and feel that the AMA is failing it's members by not doing more in the sanctioned clubs to help the new prospective members succeed and grow. I have seen the "Dues" grow every year and the National Flying Site "Grow" every year, and I would emagine AMA staff salaries grow, but helping the clubs grow......doesn't happen. When the AMA wakes up, I will gladly rejoin, I just hope they wake up before it's too late to salvage the organization. The debate by the Hobby Shops and the "Staunch Old Timers" is a totally different debate. AMA Senior Staffers....Get your head out or put in a plexiglas plate so you can see what's going on.
