RE: Why the AMA is not growing...........
Hi Guys
I have been reading with great interest about our concerns for the AMA .Lets face it the heavy duty RC hobbiest is a dynasaur .The art of building and flying big expensive airplanes to most of us is a thing of the past.
I have been in this hobby for more than 60 years and have seen most of it .
I have given up flying the larger glow type airplanes they are just too much of a complication
The AMA was a good idea when I started as a teenagger back in the late 50s with a big dangerous FREE FLIGHT airplane .Then I went on to control line .I needed the insurance and a club then also .
Now I fly more than ever with a 7 or 8 ounce EPP electric in the park, school yard or in the gym. They are slow ,up close and a lot less trouble .And more fun
We can have a lot more fun with the new little planes .They are inexpensive ,reliable and durable.
After all these years I find I do not need my club or the AMA .
The AMA has to find something to offer the old flyers and the new guys who are comming along .
These new electrics are extremely good and they do not need the club and formal airfield setups anymore.
My club 12 years ago had 140 members and this year they will not even have 80.We do not need the clubs or the AMA to have fun in the RC hobby .
The clubs and the AMA will have to find a nitch.
