RE: Excelleron 90
What I actually had was a JR Explorer V-90 FAI. From what I’ve read on the lists, this plane was the predecessor and nearly identical to the Excelleron. The main difference is mine had retracts while I believe the Excelleron’s is fixed. I used the screw-in muffler that came with the YS 120NC.
Prior to the Explorer, I had a Saphir that was also a one-piece wing plane on which I installed a long four-stroke muffler between the wing and belly pan. It was a real hassle to install and remove the muffler every time I took it out to fly - a fifteen to thirty minute exercise each way. After the Saphir I was determined never to build a plane that had to have the muffler or pipe removed in order to remove the wing.
