RE: Dave Patrick Edge 540 Project..
Nice looking Edge, I have a DA 50 in mine but it was flown with a Saito 150 and was great. Someone I know has a YS 140 it is even better. The OS 160 is just fine and has plenty of power to do IMAC style flying, MOKI (MARK 180 or 210) is great also. (What Dave designed it to do). Will come out about 12.5 to 13.5 lbs with the above engines. Mine with a DA 50 is at 16.5 lbs. Look close to the wing area compared to the NEWER 3D planes out today. The DP EDGE has a lot less, and has a wider fuselage that also takes away usable wing area. I have a manual I could copy if you need it. The manual outlines the engine choices and Dave discusses the reasons. The minimum gas engine would be a MLD 28 or any of the new 30 cc engines. I have seen this plane 3D with a MOKI. It is not a great 3D plane at 16.5 lbs, but it is great for everything else.
IMO the DP EDGE has to small of rudder not enough wing area (high wing loading) for a 50 cc engine. I have unlimited vertical and great power to toss it around but it is snappy when you manhandle the controls on the deck. If you are new to 3D then go with the Dave P subjected motors and fly IMAC. Very strong airframe and I fly mine with the DA wide open like I am flying in a Red Bull Race. Look like you have a great color scheme for racing.
As for the fire wall, most engines are going to need spacing out so just laminate a ΒΌ hard ply sheet over what is there.
The only reason I went away from glow, was the mess on the tail.
