RE: Classic Pattern Event in Chicago...2010?
Chicago Classic Pattern Championships...May 2010!
What planes will be eligible?
Short answer
: Any R/C model airplane designed prior to 1988 (weighing less than 11 pounds) will be allowed to compete. Purpose built "pattern" airplanes flown by the best pilots will more than likely earn the highest scores. This event is about FUN. Fun does not require a special airplane!
What about "modified" classic pattern airplanes?
Short Answer
: Yes, ANY SPA eligible airplane may be entered in the SPA/BPA classes. See attached photo of original Intruder vs. the very fine World Models Intruder.
What engines will be eligible?
Short Answer
: Any GLOW or ELECTRIC power source will be allowed.
What about retracts?
Short Answer?
Retracts are cool! Any model with or without retracts may be entered in any of the (4) classes. The airplane must take-off from the ground (no hand launching).
How can the contest possibly have enough time to have (4) classes fly many rounds in only one day?
Short Answer
: We will need to have (2) airplanes in the air, (2) in the ready box and (2) on deck to even have a chance! Sportsmanship and courtesy are hallmarks of the classic pattern crowd so everyone, especially those who have never or who have not flown in a contest for a long time. This is all about fun.
Rusty, how will everyone be able to borrow your cool airplanes?
Short Answer
: The World Models Intruder should be the most popular model for the SPA classes. The more esotheric models will also be popular and assuming they are "reliable" can be shared. I assume that the "borrowers" will assist in fueling, battery supervision...I strongly encourage potential borrowers to attend the Friday practice. Futaba computer radios will "drive" all of the models and custom set-ups may be programmed and saved. If you fly a 14MZ or 8FG, I can down load the programs to your transmitter. No charge or fuel costs!!!
How to advance register or advance reserve a model?
E-mail, call, write a letter, call me...
