What would happen if I used say a 1600, or 1700 mAH battery pack?
The only thing that would happen is that it would last longer.

You could use a 6v 3200MAh pack if you wanted to. It would be the same as putting a bigger fuel tank in your plane - You are still using the same fuel, you just have more of it.
