RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
A few years back, I aquired a Saito 45 with both the mounting lugs broke off at the front hole. I found a new crank case and ordered some new bearings and did a rebuild. The Gaskets were all still in one piece so I didn't use new ones. Well, I ran into two issues. When I tightened down the cam housing, it locked up. No wink on the gears and almost impossible to turn the engine over. The second issue was the back plate, It was dragging on the crank pin. I cut some shims from a coke can and all was well again. I still used the old gaskets in addition to the shims. I didn't measure the gear wink, but the engine ran very stong, so I expect it was OK. Maybe a new set of gaskets would have prevented this extra work. Who knows?
