Hi Jack, The hawk T2 definitely use's the speed brake, I'll double check with the guy that did the acceptance trials for the RAF but 99.9% sure they do use it.

Don't envy you installing that rudder without the speedbrake opening [X(]

Here's a photo of a T2 on the ground with hydraulics not pressurized the speed brake is drooping slightly............
