DP Ultimate 120 or Extra? Help me decide!
Edge:
The edge is hard to stall will never drop a wing on you. Not good for doing the IMAC 2 turn spin.
Flat tail version will not complete a knife-edge loop, w/enlarged rudder and hitec 5735 servo.
3d is king, harriers, waterfalls, blenders, elevators, wall, t-rolls all day.
Snaps require the rudder to be dialed down to not over snap.
Will slow down very quickly.
Very little if any pitch mixing for knife-edge flight.
More roll coupling mixing required for knife-edge.
A small amount of mix to take out the rocking of the wings in the harrier, and elevator.
DP Extra:
Will stall if you get it to slow good for the 2-turn spin on the IMAC
Will complete a knife-edge loop with standard rudder and 1-8411JR servo.
3d is king, harriers, waterfalls, elevators, blenders, wall, t-rolls all day.
Snaps stop on a dime on high or 3d rates although 3d rates are too much for snaps (rudder 3d) I never snap on 3d elevator.
Will do slow high alpha knife-edge.
More ailerons on the extra compared to the non- 3d one that aw rec on the edge.
Bleeds off speed slowly.
Very little roll coupling for knife-edge.
More pitch mixing required for knife-edge.
Ultimate:
Not an easy to stall plane very stable.
Will complete a knife-edge loop with standard rudder and 1-8411JR servo.
3d is good, harriers, elevators with out the wing rocking or mixing to take out the rocking, blenders, t-rolls are very fast if you can keep up with the speed 4-5 is usually all I can get. This is with an 18 x 6 pro zinger.
Lightly build but very strong design. Will talk full speed down line blenders. I never do but have seen it done with this bird.
A very fast bird on 18 x 8 props (OS-160)
No mixing on the harrier, and elevator.
Very little pitch mixing required for knife-edge.
Small amount of roll coupling for knife-edge mixing.
My Edge is the 29% one by Aeroworks so I don't know how the DP edge does its groove!
Strong points the AW 29% Edge and the DP Extra are both flown on gas (Brison 3.2 swinging 22 x 8 bambula props)
DP ultimate would be flown more by me if it were gas. It could take the weight of a gas motor as the plane has 1200 sq inches of wing space. The DP Extra and the Edge also have 1200-1200 of sq. inches. It would require remolding and shaping of the cowl as the motor would all but hang out and look very ugly. A zdz 40 or brison 2.4 would be the ticket. I came close to ordering a ARC Dave Patrick and doing the remolding of the cowl but decided to get a larger ultimate the Bob Godfrey 70"WS 77.75" length 30% Ultimate. It should arrive next week (its a kit) foam wings, tail feathers and a built up fuse.
