may i ask what 3d plane, if its the mojo .40 or similar then any .46 is more than enough power, the gms i put on mine makes the plane a rocket w/ a 12.25x3.75 prop
so take that engine off your trainer and stick it on your 3d plane, throw the new engine on it and fly for a few gallons, then throw it on the 3d plane.
i crashed my mojo at least 10 times until i learnt this lesson (luckily the gear took the hit most of the time)
Its going in a Hanger 9 Tribute but I want it to be able to pull a You can Do 3d .46 out of a hover because I am about to order one soon. I know it is way overkill for the Tribute but if I buy a .36 it will be worthless in any other (heavier) .40 plane. I know i'll have to stay below 1/2 throttle in the Tribute or the airframe will come apart. I know the UCD isn't the greatest 3D plane either but I hear it floats like a trainer and i'm comming from a trainer (Duraplane) which flies like a brick, and I've been practicing on Realflight G5.
