Some further comments on timing.

Almost all are using a Hall effect sensor for a pulse. Timing will vary depending on the engine manufacture but is typically 28 to 30 degrees before Top Dead Center. We attach the propellor to the shaft in such a manner that when we "flip" the propellor, the magnet passes by the Hall sensor and fires the plug. You can see the magnet and Hall sensor clearly in the attached photo.
