Default RE: Tamiya TamTech Frog GB01 Build/Tear Down Thread

I think that was me that posted about the GPM shocks. I've got them on my hornet. I've made a bunch of adjustments but with all the snow we've got recently I can't really test them out. The 3racing ones are the ones to get, definitely - if you can find 'em. I was looking to replace the GPMs with them but it looks like all the vendors are out. <div>
</div><div>Nonetheless, issues with the GPM units:</div><div>
</div><div>shocks bodies too long. The shocks will bottom before the car bottoms. THis means the retainer on the bottom of the shock will slam the bottom of the shock body before the car itself touches the ground. I can imagine this is not good for the shock and can result in a damaged shock body, a bent shaft, leaked oil, or possibly all three, if you're lucky (and yes the oil will leak if there's too much pressure. The seals are not that great)</div><div>
</div><div>Shock cap mounts. Versus the 3Racing's ball cap mounts, these are a simple washer/standoff/bushing thing. They can't articulate like the ball cap mount. This can create binding of the shock when mounted on certain holes. This will cause the shocks to not move very well, and cause the suspension to not be allowed to cycle correctly. For this reason I found you have to mount with the shock cap against the upper mount in the rear, then the washer/standoff thing, then the screw going through all that. </div><div>
</div><div>Shock Cap mounts shape - In the rear, you can't mount them on the upper shock mount's inner two holes. They really only fit unobstructed on the outer hole. </div><div>
</div><div>attempted resolutions:</div><div>I flipped the rear shocks upside down. This lets you mount the standoff things on the rear arms, and the ball caps on the upper shock mount. This let the shock articulate better, and let me choose whichever upper mount holes I wanted to use. I also found that my Mini-T's shock shafts were a bit longer but fit right in these shock bodies. I installed them and used them instead, in an effort to try to get a longer stroke shock. After doing this, I then swapped the recently removed rear shafts into the front shock bodies, making a longer stroke shock for the front as well. This give me more options for mounting the front and I can play with more droop setting this way. </div><div>
</div><div>I still have yet to really test the performance but man, these things are a lot of work to get ok, compared to the 3Racing units, which fit perfect but just needed an oil refill. I'd love to hear about other shocks that are compatible - I think I've seen some people using shocks from the TA04's?</div>
