He may have screwed up the timing, but what I think that some people are failing to understand is that when he's signing up or renewing he's paying for a YEAR membership. You can talk about screwing up cutoffs all you want, but the fact of the matter is when you renew for another YEAR, you should be covered for another YEAR. Not 3 months, not 5 months, not 11 months. A YEAR!!!
