There's no reason you couldn't use high-contrast, but flat paints with some cool military markings. . .  WWII Invasion stripes. . . polished aluminum F-104 Starfighter markings . . . a cool Flying Tigers mouth on the front. . . I'm not saying all of those on one plane, but those are some ideas to get you started.
