Default RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

In the Roaring Glory video of the full-scale P51 Jeff Ethell states it is easier towheel land a Mustang than three point it. He implies three-point landings can be done. I believe most full-scale Mustang pilots wheel land them for safety reasons.

In order for a plane to land, it must be out of flying speed.....just a suggestion, but use full flaps and hold it off till it's totally out of flying speed and settles on it's own in the three point attitude.... The tail draggers have always had this bug, from the Piper Cub on up, and training stressed the '' three point landing''
Eugene, "three point landing" Training stressed for Piper Cub on up to what? Our model planes often emulate their full scale counterparts especially if they are built with near scale proportions. I have flown in the jump seat of a P-51 Mustang for a total of 5 take-offs and landings. Final was hot with us looking right over the nose at the center line of the runway. It was followed by a wheel landing in every case. Long roll-out before the tailplane settled to the runway. It is a long way down. Was my pilot not doing right? Does he even have the option to 3-point this bird?

The speed at which a Mustang stops flying and the speed at which a Piper Cub stops flying are so significantly different. The TF Mustang has a good long ground roll-out just like the full scale especially on blacktop.

What heavy iron tail dragger warbirds are you flying now that you 3-point on a consistent basis?

I've tried to 3-point everything I have except for the Byron AT-6 which will kill you with a snap on that plane. None of them will do it. They all quit flying well before you could ever dream of hitting a 3-point landing. The one that comes the closest is my Ziroli Stuka. You slow up and keep hauling back on it to try and touch that tail but it just won't go there. The wing stops flying and those mains touch and it is over. Here is a shot from last summer where I was trying to nail it but the tailwheel is still well off when the plane touches down.
