Default My return to RC Planes

Well I kinda never got started let me explain
About 4 years ago I got bit by the "bug" and purchased a trainer ( superstar 40 as I recall) and a couple engines a Os .40 and a MSD(sp) .46, also an Airtronics VG4
I figured I would break in the .46 on a old lamp stand in my shop (mistake #1). I figured it should be stable enough..... Well being new to any of this I didn't realize the power in these engines ( big mistake #2) So after I fired it up it seemed ok, dont know if it was the vibration or the linkage from the servo to the throttle was loose, but the engine went fully open........ I never would had believed it, but the table actually came at me, about 60 stitches later I was done with the hobby....or atleast till I got enough nerve to mess with them engines again.

So here I am fully healed and ready to jump back on the bull. I know technology wise allot has happened. Is my Airtronics VG4 still up to recent code if any? I know they make a "Z" standard now, is my radio gear junk now?
Hopping I can reuse some electronic to dampen the initial financial hit. Also what do u folks recommend on a trainer, electric , gas?

Any input would greatly be appreciated
