I would think Winging It wouldn't be a good idea, You should always check your batteries, flight surfaces ,hinge points,control horns, prop , engine mounts, etc before you put a plane up. I have found broken and loose hinges, wallowed out control horns , batteries that have had a cell go bad , all kinds of little things , that could turn into big things once in the air. I would think a preflight inspection is one of the most important things one should do.
