Saito 72 piston ring
I am in the process of putting new bearings and a ring in my Saito 72. I do not know much history of this motor but have run maybe a 3/4 gallon through it. I did purchase it used and the bearings were bad. I knew this by being able to rock the prop back and forth. My question is somewhere I read that a broke in motor should have a ring that is silver on the contact surface with the cylinder. Is this true? The motor ran fine but I thought compression was a little lacking. The ring does not appear to have a silver surface but it is somewhat hard to tell with orange rust film that was through out the motor. Is there any way of knowing if the ring is shot.? I also read that you should not hone the cylinder due to the chrome finish..Thanks Lee
