Thanks for the suggestions! I forgot to mention after posting this that I did clean the plug and it ran fine idling... I gave it a little throttle and 5ft later it died. I did not tune the carb. I guess tomorrow when I get the new plugs I will lean out the hsp needle a bit. I do go full throttle but not continuously since I run on grass most of the time. I did not lean the engine much because it felt pretty lively/responsive plus because It's my first gasser... Seeing 280F temps made me think twice about tuning. After reading about these engines I understand that temperature is not a very important factor when tuning. The residue on the plug, engine performance, and sound is the correct way to tune. I wonder how much better the performance will be when I tune it right... Because right now with the rich setting it hauls ass.
