It's not so critical. You'll definitely notice that the power is starting to fall off long before you completely run out of juice. Still, the timer would give you a bit of extra insurance.

Go to the kitchen section of any department store, or a Radio Shack. They have talking/beeping digital timers that are ideal for flying.
