RE: IR Emitter Location
My Tiger used to have the emitter mounted in the mantlet (coaxial machine gun hole). I relocated it INSIDE the gun barrel so that when I aim the gun the emitter is pointing exactly where I am aiming. I used to keep forgetting that it was in the mantlet (offset to the right side by about 1.125 inches). I would then be aiming using the gun barrel and forgetting about the offset.
How deep the emitter is located in the barrel or mantlet makes a difference in focus of the beam. I found this out accidentally at my last club battle. I had the emitter positioned so that the tip just barely stuck out from the base of the muzzle break. This ended up giving me a 180 degree fan shot. I was able to shoot tanks that were at a 90 degree angle from either side of my gun barrel. This of course is not fair.. I was told that the range (distance wise) will be less if it is protruding from the end of the barrel or mantlet. Have not tested this myself though.
I was told the emitter should be about 6mm back from the opening of the gun barrel or mantlet. When I relocated it at the field, it ended up being 19mm back, so I will be moving it forward some next time.
