Default Can i use 1.5oz fiberglass on my airplane?

I heard that you need .50oz or .75oz fiberglass cloth to fully cover and airplane, but i found cloth that is 1.4oz per sq yd and its only 10.00 a roll! If my plane roughly only weighs 9 ounces right now, can't i just buy the 1.4oz cloth and deal with the little extra weight? Im saying this because light .50oz cloth is like 30 dollars for a roll and whats the point of paying that much if you are underweight and can live to add just 1.4 oz per sq yd?

Any suggestions?? PLease help!
