It great place to start is the Randy Randolph designs - very easy to build and actually decently looking models.
Off the top of my head I can think of the Dime (high wing though). You can find these online at the AMA site (
www.modelaircraft.org) under the digital archives. Do a search on "Randy Randolph" and you will find probably 4-5 designs that would be perfect. Added bonus = relatively cheap plans from Model Aviation.
