There is always the build from plans route. Kind of a kit without wood. It gives you a lot more options.

As Don is mentioning, I built almost all my bipes from plans, RCM and MAN plans service. Plans building is just buying the plans and cutting your own kit with a scroll saw and sander then your good to go. If that is too much then searching for kits on ebay and RCU is another option. Just expect to pay more for the kits you find. Take a look at the Great Lakes too. I built the Krier Kraft from Gordon Whitehead plans and it was a great flying machine.
