This is not something we have ever heard of happening with the trim switch. We have many customers who use and fly this transmitter in the desert southwest and none have indicated a problem of this sort.
If dust or dirt had gotten into the switch, this might explain what happened, but gasoline should never be used on delicate electronic or plastic parts. Gasoline, nitro fuel and such are very hard on plastics and will cause the plastic to soften and crack.
In the future I would suggest a shot of canned air instead.
