My experience with gas, past and present, mirrors that of Zippi's. I have several pieces of equipment that get run only a couple times a year or every other year. I use oil that has stabilizers in it and don't run the fuel out of the carb. A Troy Built tiller that is over 30 years old, a McCullough chainsaw about the same age, an Echo chainsaw, etc., never a fuel system problem. I do go through weedwackers every 4 or 5 years but not because of fuel system problems, I just beat the crap out of them.
I think the majority of the problems with long term exposure to gas has to do with the components themselves. I also have had no running quality problems with any of my equipment with gas several months old when stored in an in air tight container and kept out of the sun.
Jody, I am assuming that both Zippi and yourself are referring to straight gasoline and not an ethanol blend.
