Default How to be a D8 Newbie

I'd like to tell my story to all the pattern lurkers and people whom claim there isn't any pattern activity in their area.

Having lived in Boise, ID for the last 20 years the only thing I've seen “pattern” has been written in a magazine, email lists or on forums like this one. I write my story as a testament to the quality and character of the people in NSRCA District 8.

Last summer, thinking I was contacting a Contest Director, I mistakenly contacted the NSRCA D8 Vice President. At the time I was considering attending a contest in Redmond, OR. over 300 miles away. Unfortunately, my airplane had an off runway experience the week before the contest and I was unable to attend. About a month later the VP emails me asking if I want to hold a contest in Boise. I said sure and proceeded under his guidance to get club approval etc etc.

Well, the first “Treasure Valley Pattern Contest” was held this past weekend. Here in the west things tend to be spread out; but, that didn't stop D8 members from around the district from descending upon our field and teaching us a thing or two about how to fly pattern as well as how to run a contest.

We had a blast. My suggestion to anybody on the fence about pattern is to contact your district VP. Don't worry about becoming a NSRCA member, where you live, what kind of airplane you have, if the VP is friendly or stuck up. Just contact them and express your interest in pattern. It's amazing what can happen. Me and three other club members attended our first contest at our own club field. Visit [link=http://nsrca.us]NSRCA[/link] today!

To all of you who traveled so far and taught us so much. Thank you for bringing “Pattern” to Boise!
