RE: HPI E-10 vs. HPI RTR Sprint 2 Sport
khkim0102,
Seems by the responses you got, what to buy.
I just thought I'd put in my two cents. I have a Sprint 2 ARR that I set up to drift. It works great! I'm not familiar w/ the E-10, as I haven't got to that one yet, but I hear that there is a torque problem w/ shaft drives. In other threads, there are a couple of guys w/ gyro problems. I believe it to be because of torque problems. The car(s) will turn O.K. in one direction, but not the other.
Even so, there are thousands of folk who drift w/ this chassis with no problems, so it's up to you.
I find working on the Sprint 2 to be easy, because the chassis is "open", compared to the E-10. Electronics placement is tight, but w/ a little thought, you can have a clean install. Also, parts from HPI (or any of the major parts houses) are more affordable than Tamiya parts, even aftermarket. HPI has a TON of performance parts for the Sprint 2. What electronics do you have, or are planning to install in the Sprint 2? If you go brushless, do not go to a super high perf motor. HPI calls for a 5700 Kv motor for their brushless model, and that is as big as you would want to go. I use a Castle Mamba Max Pro in mine, w/ a 5700 Kv motor, that I tuned to about 70% on the Castle Link. The powerband is very flat, and it drifts VERY controllably (no D-box, either). Of course, if you are not a drifter, 100% is fine.
As soon as I am able, I will post pics of my install. I'm still working on my painting, so a body is forthcoming. I'm using an HPI prepainted Mustang GTR body for now. Had to use offset wheels for it to look clean.
Oh, BTW, try the rear diff shield cutout before you use the car- to keep rocks and debris from trashing your rear belt and drive pulley (and maybe the diff case, itself), if you plan on the Sprint 2.
Joeyhatch11,
That E-10 is dope! The fan install is clean! Question: do you know of a parts house w/ cheaper parts than Tower, Horizon or Great Planes? I plan on getting the Lancer DF-03RA soon, and would like somewhere I can get parts without spending too much (I spend my time in rally and drift, since I have parking lots galore in the neighborhood, and a BMX track across the street from my house).
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
