RE: Neptuno 170
Hee Yepe !
How is life ?
As it looks now we will see each other in September again.....
The CDI setup on my glow planes was quite simple: normal Futaba 4.8v 1500 mAh battery to the receiver. Then a cable from the receiver to the CDI unit. You just plug in the cable in a spare port of the receiver. This will feed the CDI unit.
It will only work with 2.4 Ghz systems as they have no problem with interference.
When you switch on the receiver, you also power the CDI.
Advantage: very light and simple
Disadvantage: can only make 2, maybe 3 flights. We are using about 480 mA per flight.
From experience I can tell that when the battery is empty (forgot to charge) the engine start misfiring before the receiver goes into battery failsafe. I can not recommend to try this ;-)
This setup is not really recommended by Futaba and they will not guarantee it, but almost all flyers I know of are using this. Me and my flying mate have been making more then 1200 flights like this with zero problems.
Hope that this clearifies it a bit
