dont mind reading ..always looking to learn and experience new things.thats how we get better.
when is a plane too heavy for aerobatics and 3d with a 30cc motor.its driving me nuts about my seagullextra 260(180)...the plane says 12 pounds and from what I am told that is marginal with a dle30..interstingly enough I looked at an spe40 and ccrc pro 40 and the horse power was the same or less?I know its also about torque and weight .can someone set me straight.I am looking now at selling it and getting something else.
Depends on the kind of aerobatic flying you want to do. For 3D, the 12 lb model should hover at 1/2 throttle. That doesn't leave you much margin to accelerate from hover. It should do it but grudgingly.
Prop selection has the most to do with how the model behaves in 3D. That's why most sport fliers use something light like an 18x6 to do 3D when using the muffler on the engine. A pipe will give you about 800-1000 rpm boost using the 18x6. You want thrust
Just selling a 12 pound model and getting another 12 lb model as replacement is no answer. Unfortunately you are not going to find much lighter than that...even the EF Extra is marginally lighter but by only a few ounces. And this is a larger plane than most in this size range.
The ZDZ40 F3A is a rear intake rear exhaust engine. Troy Built has them for less than 400$ which is a steal for around 4 1/2 hp.
