Why no relays? I have ESCs that are old enough to vote, and use a relay for reversing, and have never given any problem. As long as the relay contacts are capable of handing the current, they will just sit there and work. Nowadays, power transistors are cheap enough that a bridge of four can be created as a cheaper alternative to using a relay and fit into a smaller package, but its a matter of choice, rather than compulsion.
