for short term use wd-40 is ok  but storing for winter or long period its not good   wd-40 will evaporate.   plus wd-40 is a penitrating fluid .  wd-40 will clean great. espically the oil that is the fuel we use.   best to clean with the wd-40  then use after run oil after.  ive used transmission fluid for after run oil with no problems.  by the way  ive been to school on different uses of oil and what weights to use.     mostly on industrial equipment but the same principles apply.
