Default RE: Evolution 1.00NX Flight Test Report + Hints and Tips

Hi all. I have two EVO 100's and the main reason is I was too lazy to deal with a new engine mount and wanted to use the same engine in my Showtime 90 as Hanger 9 recommended. While fooling around with the engines on the test stand I actually read the instructions LOL. One of the possible fixes for a poor running engine ( i narrowly missed disaster on several occasions with my 100 and shotime coming so close to crashing I think the hand of the almighty himself must have saved the plane!) was to check the fuel line from the remote needle valve to the carb. Lo and behold there was a leak and a simple fuel line clamp and a cleaned up piece of tubing solved it all.

I have had some minor issues tuning the mid range/idle but once set the engine has run like a top. My Shotime is about 8.8 pounds but honestly the EVO is really not quite enough for it and i think the 120 is a great choice now. The airframe is so capable that it seems a shame not to have unlimited verticle which the 100 does not provide at least with a 14x4W prop.

The Shotime itself does not like to fly without power unless the flaps are deployed and a balky engine is not fun in this plane!

All in all I can understand both sides of the coin with the EVo 100 and here are my conclusions:

1) it does need some bench or non flight time like you'd do with any ringed engine. Once you work with the carb settings and dial them in it is flawless reasonably powerful and runs a long time on a tank of fuel!

As far as carb gaskets I routinely check them at installation and use Hylomar sealer as a safety measrue to insure a good seal

I think the EVo 120 would also be a better choice for the Seagul Bipe which I am now working on. The 120 obviously is pretty much the same engine and the learning I have done on the 100 has made the 120 super simple and very reliable.

I like mine but it was not without a learning curve DW
