Tower Hobbies Turbo Vee has no FWD power
so I have a sick Tower Hobby Turbo Vee... its been working fine for months then a couple weeks ago it "got sick" and has been sick since. thinking back it did take a flip and took on some water the previous week but was running fine afterwards and the ESC is "supposedly" water proof and is in a plastic case. The boat just has no power in FWD and goes very slowly, and goes faster in REV. I dont recall how fast it used to go in REV but it is definitely faster now than in FWD
At first I thoiught it was battery related (and still may be) but I have tested with several batteries that had all been working with same results from each. it will still run for several minutes without losing what little power it has. the rudder works just fine tho I assume it can function just fine with minimal power. I went through all the adjustments on Transmitter to be sure I hadnt accidently set something wrong.
I'm "assuming" it is ESC related. I do have a brand-new Losi MSLT twin motor ESC laying around (designed for 2 370's), I have heard it will handle a single 540. anyone know if this is true? I hate to use a brand new ESC as a test and blow it up. also any other suggestions as to what is wrong and/or what/how to check?

BTW - the Turbo Vee is still all stock. I have volt/ohm meter for tests (no amp-meter)
