RE: 1/2 Scale Fokker D-8
This morning I have covered one aileron. Have to go out and cut grass now, but em hoping to be able to cover the other some time today. Covering with this plywood as some of you know who have done this is really not fun, as if you screw up you really have problems. I had to have the wife come done and the extra hands really helped out. As each piece of plywood is added the wing gets bigger!
Last week when the wing was mounted to the airframe I did some stress testing on the wing. My son picked up one wingtip end as I did the other. We were able to lift the plane without the plywood on the wing with ease. This really gave me confidence in the wings structure as I have been worried about this through the whole building of the wing. The goal was to make it as light as possible. The complete wing without ply sheeting weighs 12 lbs. I think that will double with the plywood added.
If you visit Achim Engels site, FTS, You will see he has covered his D-8 and mounted the finished wing. My goal is to have my wing finished in the same manner.
