RE: Why join the AMA??? PROS/CONS
dbcisco, in SoCal (Southern California), land is at a premium, especially open land. We have a golf-course on one side of our field, 3 open sections of field surrounding the rest, and another park on the other side of a 5 lane street. It's in a public park area, but we have housing & businesses only 1/3 mile away. No other place close to get use of land, especially considering fire hazards in the rest of the open land 7 miles from us. The park service doesn't care if a jet crashes on this particular piece of land because it's isolated to a point, and mostly brush around us. It is dry here by May 1rst and a lot of land becomes fire hazards. SoCal in the LA & San Diego areas are also on water restrictions because of drought over the last 9 years that has occurred and north of us, the Owens Valley Dry Lake is now getting water back due to contract expirations with them. The LA area used to get a HUGE chunk of their water from the Owens Valley, until this year. Even Van Nuys airport is surrounded by housing & businesses.
