Default Battery and motor

The plane that I am flying with is an Electrifly Yak 55, having a great time with it but I noticed my battery doesn't last more then 8 minutes. I am using a smaller battery then is recommended and noticed that I have to place the battery closer to the nose to balance the plane out. The motor size:Ball-bearing 370-sized motor.

Questions

1. Using a 2cell lipo battery at 440Mah will it destroy the motor. Recommended battery is 1250 - 1500mAh 3-series Lithium Polymer battery
2. I am noticing that I need to fly at full power at all times to get hieght would the recommended battery produce more power/lift or will it just give me longer flying times?

Thank you
